LANCASTER - At 263 members, Eastside High School's award-winning Lion Pride marching band is the largest in the Antelope Valley. From an educational standpoint, performing arts director Tom Hixon said, the band staff's philosophy is simple: all children need access to a music education. While some high schools follow the model that students who did not participate in music at their junior high schools are either not allowed or encouraged to participate in the program, Eastside doesn't subscribe to that. All students are welcome.   For complete story, subscribe to the Antelope Valley Press for only 25¢ a day.

PALMDALE - If war veterans need help with their transition into civilian life, help is on the way. A new Vet Center is getting ready to open in Palmdale, according to Gerry Rice, a marriage and family therapist who resides in Quartz Hill. As a Vietnam war veteran, Rice also offers therapy sessions to the troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, drawing on his own wartime experiences.   For complete story, subscribe to the Antelope Valley Press for only 25¢ a day.
