FROZEN IN TIME
The one-of-a-kind X-1E rocket research aircraft strikes an ageless pose at Dryden Flight Research Center, where the craft flew 26 missions from 1955 through 1958. The X-1E, modified from one of the three original X-1 aircraft, reached a maximum speed of Mach 2.24 on its 17th flight, Oct. 8, 1957, with research pilot Joseph A. Walker in the cockpit.
